One of the best ways to keep your child’s playroom rock climbing wall exciting is by regularly updating the climbing routes. At Tree Frog Play, we encourage parents to switch things up to keep their kids engaged and challenged. Here’s how you can make your climbing wall feel brand new with just a few simple changes.
- Create New Routes: Every few weeks, take some time to change the layout of the kid's climbing holds. You can create new paths that require different movements, such as zigzagging or crossing hands. This keeps the climbing experience fresh and helps your child develop new skills as they adapt to each route. If your child is old enough, let them help design the routes, making it a fun and creative activity you can do together. They can even help you screw in the new playroom climbing holds.
- Adjust the Difficulty: To keep your child improving, consider adjusting the difficulty of the routes. For younger or less experienced climbers, place the rock wall holds closer together and within easy reach. As they grow more confident, spread the holds out or introduce more challenging angles and overhangs. By varying the difficulty, you ensure that your child continues to be challenged and motivated.
- Introduce Themed Climbs: Make climbing even more exciting by introducing themed routes. For example, you could create a “Mountain Rescue” theme, where your child has to climb to the top to save a toy or stuffed animal. Or design a “Jungle Adventure” route, where they have to avoid certain colored holds as if they were dangerous animals. Themes add a layer of imagination to the physical challenge and keep the climbing wall a source of endless fun.
