At Tree Frog Play, we know that a playroom rock climbing wall can be one of the most exciting features in your child’s play space. But to keep the fun going, it’s important to get creative with how it’s used. Here are a few game ideas that can transform your climbing wall into an adventure-filled playground.
- Climb the Rainbow: This game is all about color coordination and adds a fun twist to a regular climb. Assign each color of climbing hold a different point value or challenge. For example, blue holds might be worth five points, while red holds require your child to balance on one foot before moving on. You can even create a rainbow-themed route, where your child has to touch each color in order to “reach the pot of gold” at the top. Our Kids Playroom Rainbow Climbing Holds are perfect for setting this up!
- Alphabet Climb: Turn climbing into a learning opportunity with the Alphabet Climb game. Place letter stickers or small magnets on the kid's climbing holds and challenge your child to climb in the order of the alphabet. This game can also be adapted for younger kids who are learning their ABCs or for older kids who want to spell out words as they climb.
- Time Trials: Add a bit of friendly competition by introducing timed climbs. Use a stopwatch to see how quickly your child can complete a specific route. You can create different levels of difficulty by changing the kid's colored climbing holds or routes. Encourage your child to beat their own time, or challenge siblings and friends to see who can reach the top the fastest.
A family sent us this video on Instagram about how they had their toddlers find toys throughout their climbing wall. Soon enough, they were hiding the toys themselves!
By introducing these fun and engaging games, you can keep your playroom rock climbing wall fresh and exciting. At Tree Frog Play, we’re all about making playtime active, imaginative, and endlessly enjoyable!
